Lou Clark knows lots of things. She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick.

What Lou doesn’t know is she’s about to lose her job or that knowing what’s coming is what keeps her sane.

Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he’s going to put a stop to that.

What Will doesn’t know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they’re going to change the other for all time.

Utterly heart-wrenching and not to be read without tissues at the ready, Me Before You is a book that is will steal your heart and set it on fire. I was not prepared for the flood of tears, and neither was my cat when I gripped onto her and sobbed into her fur. But honestly, this is a book that every girl should read at least once in her life.

“You only get one life. It’s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.”

Louisa is a strong character for what she has to go through. There will be trigger warnings relating to her past, and while I wish not to spoil that for you, I advice you to read carefully and cautiously. Her strength and work ethic is quite pleasing, considering that in today’s British economy, jobs are incredibly scarce. You also quite like Will, and while his sarcastic come backs with annoy you at first, you can’t help but adore him. His story is tragic and will rip your soul apart.

“You are scored on my heart, Clark. You were from the first day you walked in,with your ridiculous clothes and your complete inability to ever hide a single thing you felt.”

The plot is not something I can share, because the wonder of the book comes at the end. So ultimately, if you feel like crying yourself to sleep, having your heart ripped out and just want to become a tiny ball of despair, this book is what you HAVE to read. Honestly though, Me Before You is an essential read before hitting the cinemas to see it on the big screen.
